There’s a hidden toxin that few people are aware of: EMF (aka electromagnetic fields that emit radiation).
It’s the cigarette of our generation – the wireless tech is cool, but its harmful effects (even cancer-causing) are just now being revealed.
The problem is that it’s such a low-level, chronic exposure of radiation that we may not see the damage for decades to come. That’s why it’s so hard for adequate studies to be conducted – though there are some.
The time to protect against this toxin – and spread awareness of it – is now.
To help you and your family do that, I want to share a few cheap and free ways to lower your EMF exposure.
But first, let’s take a look at why it is harmful in the first place.
What Is EMF and Why Is it Bad?
EMFs, or electric and magnetic fields, are invisible areas that put out a lot of energy. This energy is known as radiation and exists thanks to power lines, microwaves, x-rays, visible light, infrared devices, and more.
EMF is everywhere and its artificial forms are wreaking havoc on people’s health and wellbeing – whether they realize it or not.
There has been some research revealing the link between EMFs and health problems. It’s been found to result in symptoms such as:
- dizziness
- headaches
- sleep problems
- nausea
- cancer
- infertility
Unfortunately, there has not been much research on EMF exposure levels, which essentially means people are experimenting on themselves without knowing the risk.
As more research surfaces, I believe more opportunities for EMF protection will surface, but for now it’s up to us to shield against EMF in the one place we have complete control over:
Our homes.
With that said, I want to share 5 no-cost ways to reduce your home’s EMF levels – most of which you can start today!
1. Rely on Airplane Mode
Cell phones are everywhere. Most people have at least one in their home that is operating wirelessly 24/7. While this makes it easy to get email and connect with people, it also means the phone is emitting radiation continuously.
This is dangerous, but there is an easy fix:
Simply putting your cell phone, laptop, or tablet on airplane mode stops the transmission of WiFi, which means those dangerous signals are no longer being emitted.
This is important for adults as it is an easy way for adults to protect themselves, but it is imperative for children who have thinner skulls and still developing brains (which means EMF has a more significant & negative impact).
If possible, children shouldn’t handle phones or tablets unless put on airplane mode.
2. Turn Off Bedroom Breaker at Night
Sleep quality is important and plays a huge role in overall health and how well a person functions the next day. Unfortunately, WiFi can disrupt natural sleep patterns, flooding your body with low-grade radiation at its most vulnerable time.
Turning off the breaker to your bedroom at night is the best way to cut any EMFs that may be in the room, including those that emit from outlets and the wiring in your walls.
However, I know that’s not feasible for everyone, so the next best thing is to turn off your WiFi router, unplug all devices, and keep tech gadgets outside your bedroom (maybe leave them in your kitchen or living room).
3. Ditch the Microwave
While most people know that microwaves use radiation to heat food, not everyone knows that some of that radiation escapes during the process.
No microwave is able to completely contain all of the radiation that it provides when heating food – not to mention the nutrient destruction that happens within food cooked in a microwave, but that’s a rant for another day.
So the best way to cut down on EMF exposure in the kitchen, and to ensure that nobody in the family is accidentally exposed to this radiation, is to get rid of the microwave.
I have 3 young children, and I thought life without a microwave would be a lot more dramatic than it’s turned out to be. In reality, it only takes a couple minutes longer to heat up leftovers on the stovetop.
If you absolutely can’t get rid of it, don’t let anyone stand in the kitchen while the microwave is in use.
4. Ask for an Analog Meter
More and more homes are being switched over to smart meters without the owner’s permission. While they make it easy for utility companies to check your electricity usage and bill you appropriately, smart meters emit high levels of EMF all throughout the day.
Traditional analog meters (that have to be read manually) are much safer and don’t transmit wirelessly.
If you haven’t had a smart meter installed yet, consider refusing installation of a new meter.
If you already have one, you can demand the meter be removed and replaced with an analog version. In the meantime (or if your utility company makes it near impossible to get rid of), you can use a shielded smart meter cover to drastically reduce radiation emissions.
5. Use a Corded Landline
Most people have family members that have an old corded landline in their attic or basement and are happy to get rid of it to free up some space.
Switching from a wireless phone back to a corded landline is a quick and easy way to reduce EMF exposure in your home. I know we’re all used to the mobility and convenience that wireless phones afford, but is it worth the threat to our family’s health?
That’s it for now. I hope these 5 free ways to lower EMFs in your home were helpful! Sure, there are some fantastic EMF protection products out there, but there’s no reason to spend a ton of money to protect your family when you can start by spending none at all.
